This might just be me, but when artists say “manifesting sales” (at least when I say it) it means I’m selling my work and I hope someone likes it enough to want to have it in their home. I don’t think it’s guilting or anything like that, but I can understand how it may come off
like that. I’ve seen a lot of stuff about people being guilted into buying stuff and rting people’s work, and I get it! But at the same time, if we’re not gonna promote our work, who will? It’s not “buy my work or I’ll rip out my hair”. And I do see a lot of people feel
discouraged when their collections don’t sell out within the first day. It doesn’t mean you flopped - have more confidence in yourself luv! The right people will see it and want to have it, so keep promoting your work. Also, for some of us, this is our only source of income, so
promoting and sharing our work is all we’re trying to do. Hoping someone will like it enough to want to have it for themselves. And unfortunately, we all need money to live. So why shame someone for trying to make money? Especially during a pandemic? I know some maybe can’t
afford that (bc of the pandemic), and that’s okay! I think what I’m trying to say is: there’s two sides of the story. And shaming someone for “guilting” others into buying their work is hurtful and a lil holier-than-thou, so if you can’t help that person promote their work better
why do you wanna judge them or shame them at all? We all live in different circumstances. You don’t shame people for making gofundme’s do you? Wouldn’t that count as “guilting” someone into helping you, if we’re using the same terminology? It’s all just hypocritical to me, so I
feel like if you’re not gonna help the person maybe see a different perspective or help them promote their work without it coming across as “guilting”, then leave the situation alone and move on. Idk that’s just me! We’re all learning! I’m definitely gonna change some of the
terminology in my tweets bc I can see how some of it comes off. But if you’re just gonna shade and shame others for making a mistake and not thinking differently, that’s kinda lousy imo
Idk, I just see so much judgment and shaming on art twitter and for what? You don’t know everyone’s intentions or life experiences. If they’re in a tricky situation where they need to make money fast, then they are! Idk it’s just all wodjakdjos to me
Also!! Maybe not all people’s work is for sale! So saying you’re having a sale or you have x, y, and z available, then that’s good for others to know if they wanna but it!! Idk it’s not all black and white, so try to be compassionate and understanding, if you can!!
I might delete this thread bc it’s a lot, or trim it and write it another time bc I do want people to know they shouldn’t feel bad for promoting their art/or not selling out immediately
LAST THING! Do we shame Old Navy when they have sales? Or IKEA when we see their commercials on tv? NO bc it’s just promoting and trying to get people to have their stuff in their home!!! We all do it! So why shame others online for doing the same thing we see on tv?
Ok one more thing lol! I see a lot of us say “4 sales until my goal!” and then offer something to the 4 ppl who buy. But I feel like that’s just telling those people who DO wanna buy your stuff that you’ll get something extra bc they’re so appreciative of you. Idk? Not forcing
people to buy your work? Does that make sense? Idk that’s just how I think! I never wanna force someone into buying my jewelry: I’m so grateful for every comment or share! And I know some others can only be in it for the $ but like I said just be compassionate and understanding!
