The limousine populists over at the NY Young Republican Club are jumping on the Gamestop short squeeze--using the name recognition of Occupy Wall Street to try & influence participants and forward their shitty Far Right politics. This is straight out of the Steve Bannon playbook.
Steve Bannon, graduated from the Harvard Business School and was a Goldman Sachs investment banker. He was bankrolled by the ultra-rich Mercer family & arrested on a billionaire's yacht last year. He likes to talk about the "revolt of the little guy" as he stokes ultranationalism

Since Gavin Wax became president of the NYYRC he's invited many Far Right scum to speak, such as Ann Coulter, Islamophobe Pamela Geller, and Nazi collaborator Jack Posobiec (all w/ Bannon links). Of course, Bannon & those v. closely linked to him (like Raheem Kassam) also spoke.
Michelle Malkin, who appeared in Steve Bannon's documentaries, provoked controversy. She's tied to Nick Fuentes, the white nationalist & antisemitic leader of "America First", a group active in the siege on the Capitol. Sometime before becoming the NYYRC president, Gavin Wax, along w/ his buddy Ian Reilly, worked w/ AfD, the Far Right (fash) party in Germany. In July 2020, the NYYRC announced "official cooperation" with Lega Giovani, the youth wing of Lega, a Far Right party in Italy. Salvini, the former interior minister, is facing trial for blocking refugees at sea, and is one of the few Euro politicians to work with Bannon.

Jake Freijo, the NYYRC Advisory Chairman, also has links to Project Veritas, which of course has links to Bannon. Members of the NYYRC went to DC on January 6th. They claim they weren't at the Capitol, but nonetheless they went to overturn election results they didn't like and peddle nonsense about the election being stolen.
And guess what? While Gavin Wax and NYYRC aren't courting the Left, post Capitol siege they need something to hang their red MAGA hats on. They want to take anger about wealth disparity, poverty & inequality and funnel it into a "hard-nosed capitalism" where the hook is xenophobia & nationalism.
Gavin Wax is also an opportunist & exploiting an issue/crisis to further his Far Right political goals is his MO.
