In debating financial markets, someone will always say "Ah, but who owns these stocks & shares? We all do, through our pensions - so we are ultimately to blame." In the UK, pension funds ownership of shares fells from 30% early 90s to 3% today - while over 50% of UK shares now owned by overseas investors. https://www.ft.com/content/14cda94c-5163-11e5-b029-b9d50a74fd14
The UK seems a little shy to provide public data on share ownership by income or wealth percentile (can you help, @ONS?) but i'll bet the truth is as extreme, if not more, than the US story above.
