Most of us know that there are 12 rashis ( zodiac signs), navgrah (9 planets ) and 27 nakshtras ( stars that are taken as reference points by our rishis )
#JyotishShastraBasics
Jyotish is based on Drik Siddhanta that is why we will consider 5 planets that are visible through naked eyes. Therefore grah till saturn are given prime importance . Also, since we are on earth, we will replace it with surya as we see surya going around the earth.(Maya)
We can also see moon revolving around earth and this being the nearest celestial body , holds extreme importance . The point of intersection of paths of Sun and moon forms Rahu ( north node) and ketu ( south node ) .
These forms the navgrah ( 5 tatva grah : Me,Ve,Ma,Ju,Sa ; 2 luminaries : Su, Mo and 2 nodes ) Rishis considered these navgrah along with 27 fixed reference points ( nakshtras ) spanning out in 12 rashis ( zodiac signs ) for explaining the karma prarabdha of a being .
Also Yajurveda says "Yatha pinde tatha brahmande, yatha brahmande tatha pinde " meaning As in the individual so in the universe and vice versa . You will find the interplay of these navgrah rashi and nakshtra everywhere around you including your body. ( Also basis of Ayurveda)
People are skeptical about Jyotish for various reasons - They question whether it's scientific ? Well , you will see many examples in history who were punished for saying something that was not an established scientific theory at their time. So have faith in our rishis 😀
Note: Few people consider Neptune, Pluto and Uranus along with the navgrah. These three have been mentioned in Mahabharat BUT many traditional astrologers don't use them except during mundane predictions. We will stick to navgrah only in this series 🙏
