I mean MAYBE we can start by not knowingly rolling out the red carpet for Bad Men TM into our industry BUT WHAT DO I KNOW
Also, FYI, I was not checked with whether I was fine about a Bad Man TM being welcomed into the industry (that's a lie that DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE WTF), what I *was* asked at the time was "are you gonna be there" and the answer, of course, was nnoooOOOoo
The first time I became aware that they'd nominated this guy was when I saw the announcement on their fb page

I'm just fed up with fake ass people. How can you act out "how do we retain minorities??" so innocently on Twitter when you pull this kind of shit in private. There's no point engaging with someone of such bad faith but gotta wonder how you even sleep at night
One last thing; there's a personal aspect to this, sure- she WAS my lecturer, and I started volunteering at conferences because she said we should, and she also promised me directly that she would help protect me from this man
But the actual *issue* is that we have "pillars of the community", who are WOMEN, who will knowingly open the door to not-great men (or at least, not vet the awards at the conferences they run, nor never apologise to the women they might be empowering the abusers of)
and then hide their shitty behaviour behind a progressive facade on Twitter and lovebombing specific people. THAT is the problem we as an industry face, that I want to point out. It is NOT an easy one.
