This was named roundabout of the year in 2014 and was on the front cover of a calendar depicting the best British roundabouts
I went to see it and liked it but I spent far too long thinking about the market for roundabout calendars and who votes for their favourite roundabout
I went to see it and liked it but I spent far too long thinking about the market for roundabout calendars and who votes for their favourite roundabout
A few months later I went into a pub in a different town and their was a poster up urgung people to vote for 'their' roundabout
I mentioned it to the barman and he told me that a few regulars had formed a 'local roundabout society' and held street stalls urging people to vote
I mentioned it to the barman and he told me that a few regulars had formed a 'local roundabout society' and held street stalls urging people to vote
When people ask me why I love the UK I think of this and story the barman told of the disappointment and how the local group were devastated by their defeat - he told me that rumours of unfair lobbying and backhanders were blamed
To cut a long story short, a few society members came in and the barman said I was interested, which wasn't untrue but I didn't really want to spend my night talking about roundabouts but I did
And I signed a pledge (not in blood) to support them the next year
Being me I forgot until I started receiving emails about 'campaign meetings'

And then I discovered just how competitive roundabouts are and if you want to know more Mr Beresford is the president of the UK Roundabout Appreciation Society
And councils and local groups really do put their roundabouts forward for the award and inclusion in the calendar, obviously the front cover is most sought after, is a big thing
I don't have any connection with the awards and I don't have a favourite roundabout but if you really want cheering up about how wonderful the UK is the roundabout people have a website https://www.roundaboutsofbritain.com/about-us/
And journalist John Humphrys is apparentlt a honorary UKRAS member
As their blog says: "It’s not swings, it’s roundabouts. To be precise, a selection of some of online dealership Carspring’s own favourites. These aren’t just your average, run of mill roundabouts, they’re bonafide examples of roundabout greatness...
....We know what you’re thinking, roundabouts… not too interesting. Well, we urge you not to take the first available exit, but to give roundabouts a chance"
