I recognize the successes of restrictions in some areas such as BC, but I am concerned that gyms and indoor dining are allowed without adequate enforced restrictions. In my opinion, these places should not be open...
but the next best thing would be to have N95-quality mask mandates, much more strict protocols around the numbers allowed inside at one time, risk questionnaires for all attendees to sign and pass, and much, much stricter regulations about ventilation:
every gym or restaurant should have open windows and doors, hepa or merv-13 filtration to an enforced standard, with efficiency checked by CO2 level monitoring...
The CO2 level is an indirect measure of how well-ventilated a room is (the CO2 itself is not a danger to health even if elevated indoors).
We are in the last stretch of controlling the pandemic--steps like these are easy, have minimal risks or inconveniences to people, will save lives and reduce suffering, and will make the vaccines more effective...
If better efforts are not used to control spreading before the vaccines are widely administered, this will allow a higher statistical chance for more dangerous and problematic mutations to develop in the viral strains, thereby risking a greatly prolonged pandemic.
