Yay!! Incredibly happy today on sharing that I am cured of ocular #TB! Those who know me, know I don’t usually share such things. But it has been a long journey…

First dx in 2018 (L image) wasn’t sure if drug-susceptible or drug-resistant #TB. Was less concerned about 1 yr of taking anti-TB drugs than about being on the right drug-susceptible vs #MDRTB treatment!
Considered a TB expert professionally provided all sorts of insights (ones I didn’t ask for!). Bucking supposedly expert opinion, I resisted steroids. Gambled on this being the drug-susceptible type of TB, and took the appropriate drug regimen.
Personal experience of going through the complexities of TB dx and rx made me realize: the TB landscape is a strange one. Literally a painful realization that the diagnostic landscape for extrapulmonary forms of TB is still pretty barren.
Here we are, 2 years later. The photos above help tell the story: I am declared cured. My 1-year rx regimen concluded in 2019, but it’s just now that the cloud has lifted.
A friend of mine once said I have ‘the gift of gab’. That may be true! I am working on writing this up for a more expansive forum in the future.
Technically a #TBSurvivor, I remain uneasy with the term for myself. I am a survivor, yes- but more so in many other ways. I'm from a country where TB afflicts many; my story is not unique. Yet it is as well. And that's why I share this: simply because I am happy to be cured.
