The reason why most “speed guys” don’t shine in the NFL, especially smaller guys, is because they don’t have high end controlled speed. Essentially they turn into 1 trick ponies. While the 4.5 guy with high end controlled speed in route tends to be far more consistent/successful.
So like.. Jerry Jeudy vs Henry Ruggs. Jeudy played as fas if not faster than any receiver in the nation. IN ROUTE. Now after the catch Ruggs could outrun a defense in ways Jeudy couldn’t. But the panic Jeudy put into defenders on a play to play basis was DIFFERENT.
Now, the “issue” with Jeudy and maybe my one knock.. he wasn’t all that physical. I tweeted out about how I noticed all his drops (like 9) were with bodies around him. When uncomfortable. That was concerning to me. Turned his body to not take on the brunt of blocking
Stuff like that where I was like “idk how tough he is”.. well we saw the drops continue in the NFL. In the same fashion. Not sure how much that’ll change. BUT he’s still everything else I thought he’d be lol
Ruggs should work with Keith (Dubb) Williams.. receiver coach. Same guy Tyreek Hill and Tae Adams work with. And plenty other guys. But he’d definitely help Ruggs work on being able to control his speed in route more. I’ve said this before lol. Actually pre draft.
