Here's why I'm not convinced QAnon was part of a plan:

Q first posted 170 weeks ago. It isn't clear what effect the QAnon phenomenon has had on the US body politic. The world has changed a lot over the last three years, but it's impossible to know how much Q changed it.

Even if we were able to know what difference Q had made to the last 39 months, nobody could have known in advance the way things would work out.

Trump had no track record, and abandoned many long-established political norms even before an unprecedented global pandemic.

But for the sake of argument, let's say that someone, by some miracle, could have predicted back in October 2017 precisely how Q's 5000 posts, and the movement which developed around them, would change the world.

And let's imagine, that, by some coincidence, that the same person who somehow knew what was going to happen, wanted those things to happen, and also was capable of pulling off the plan, and also was willing to risk it. https://twitter.com/janbobrowicz/status/1242064684854980610

I still don't see how someone who wanted to get here, from there, would do that.

And by ‘that’ I mean ‘make a series of claims—viz. Trump is secretly ridding the world of a global cabal of Satanic pedophiles—on a sleazy imageboard full of Nazis and csa material, in the style of other, previous shitposting LARPers.’

Because fuck me, as a plan, that's pretty fucking dumb. Just everything about it is the worst imaginable way of achieving any supposed goal of any kind. It makes no sense to do what they did, instead of literally anything else.

They picked the shittiest site, for no reason, made stupid promises, completely unnecessarily, made dumb mistakes and told obvious lies.

It's just an endless sequence of truly awful decisions, each one of which opens “teH pLaN” up for failure.

People absolutely benefited from QAnon, and many people exploited it for their own ends, but they did that in the same way that people profit from other natural disasters. They couldn't have planned it, and they wouldn't if they could.
