Here's how I won PTDF scholarship as an undergraduate though I shouldn't be eligible (New laptop, 200k+ per yr)

Here's what happened

From the announcement, only students from Petroleum Engineering were eligible to apply from UI

A friend in Mech Engineering who told me about
the scholarship gave out the application scratch card he bought to a Pet Eng student because he discovered he wasn't eligible to apply

He came back to tell me about the eligibility based on department

I as a Physics student had a choice to either go ahead to buy the scratch or
just let it go

Well, I made a choice

I didn't only go ahead to buy the scratch card, I encouraged a friend in Chemistry to do the same (even though I told him we shouldn't be eligible)

We applied and were shortlisted for the exam

It was a very tough exam. A good number of
people wrote it; wasn't a large crowd as you would normally expect

After few months, I received a message that I have won the scholarship. My friend in Chemistry also won it

Got a new laptop, initial payment of 200k+. I enjoyed the money for 2 years or so

Lesson learnt
In this scholarship journey, it doesn't hurt to try even when you seem to fall short of requirements

Sometimes you may turn out to be the best in an admission pool for a particular cycle

Remember I bought scratch card, it could have been a waste

CGPA only doesn't define you
