I’ve been teaching since August, finally really hitting my stride in remote teaching after too-little-too-late support early on, my students are showing that they’re “getting” it, I’m medically vulnerable w/ADA but ready to go back once I’m vaccinated and *I* am “the bad guy.” 🙄
Yeah, no, miss me with that.

That crap is why Moira drinks (after 5 and on weekends).

I spent yesterday morning buying groceries for a neighbor in Week Four of covid (home from hospital for 3) so she’ll have food during the impending snow; her son got it at the same time and...
...is out of work, coughing up blood clots, still testing +.

Maybe to you teacher-bashers in your cloistered privileged bubbles where you can drive to a neighboring county to spend your $ to eat in a restaurant rather than get carryout, covid is still abstract. Not for me...
I’ve had sick family members & friends down for the count for weeks, including students (middle & high school and college-age). Fortunately most recovered fully but some have permanent organ damage. 😢
So go ahead & laugh at my double-masking and my hand sanitizer in the car. Go ahead and call me selfish for not wanting to catch or spread the ‘Rona. I DGAF what you think of me. Sick/dead people can neither teach nor learn. That’s not on teachers.
We didn’t make this mess any more than the students did.

We could be (and should have been!) spending money on mental health services (while we argue about SRO’s in closed schools🙄). We could be getting much better internet to more families, & pay ppl to stay home...
...without having to worry about $. We cld be hiring more tchrs so nobody has an unmanageable class load & to help teachers build relationships even online...
If your go-to right now is “GD selfish teachers” & not “how do we make this better for *everyone* until it’s safe?” you’re uninformed, possibly WILLINGLY so, so as not to mess with your confirmation biases. You’re part of the problem, not the solution.
Tonight we’re gonna order food to support our LOCAL restaurants and instead of bitching that we can’t eat IN the restaurant we’re gonna binge a TV show as a family & have a great night in...and then tomorrow between shifts shoveling snow I’m gonna plan for semester 2...
...even knowing there are people out there who have name for teachers even *I* won’t use who are teaching remotely. I’ll teach all the kids, even the ones who come to me w/the privileged attitudes they get from parents like that. But first: ☕️
