2. Our department had a core staff of 19 (full & parttime) before the #pandemic. VERY slowly our staff increased and we had ~100 (full & parttime) by April. We worked so hard, we chased down every sniff of #COVID19 we could. We provided a 7/7 24 hour service ...
3. But towards end of May (before 1st wave even over) our staff numbers started to be cut! By July we were back to ~25 staff all of whom were exhausted. At the same time @HSELive closed contact tracing call centres with the false promise that they could be opened up overnight ...
4. Those of us on the ground repeatedly advised against this approach. We know this isn’t what you do in a pandemic. We know they should have maintained and enhanced the staffing levels in public health departments and retained their contact tracers. But no-one listened! ...
5. And despite being proven right still no-one is listening. Our department staffing has increased painfully slowly to ~50 (full & parttime) staff. So for first wave we had ~100 staff for ~1,000 cases in our region. Now we have ~50 staff for ~14,000 cases in last 3 months! ...
6. So now we see the level of commitment from @merrionstreet to #FlattenTheCurve never mind trying to crush, suppress or aim for elimination. This is what our population are getting! Grossly inadequate numbers of public health staff and no consultants to lead the service ...
