Remembering SOPHIE

Earlier, the tragic news about face of PC music SOPHIE's passing were confirmed. SOPHIE, mostly known as a genius in the music industry, pushing the boundaries of what electronic music and pop was capable off, was much more than just a producer
Mainly she was an incredible human being and an icon in the trans community, always advocating everybody should be allowed to be who they want to be and to love everyone for how they are.

I'll still mainly focus on her musical career because thats how I got to know and love her.
Many people point the start of what is now known as hyperpop and the PC Music label to 2014 when SOPHIE worked together with A.G. Cook to create the song Hey QT, which was a song promoting an energy drink that didn't actually exist, but shaped the PC Music sound early.
Like it was for many people, I first got introduced to Sophie and her distinct style by Charli XCX's music. In 2016 the two released a short EP called Vroom Vroom EP that would change Charli's career forever and impact pop more than a lot of people would've thought back then.
Before 2016, Charli mostly made radio-friendly music. After her and SOPHIE met, she opened her eyes that there is much more in the music industry than trying to be mainstream with Vroom Vroom EP having a lot of incredible songs, like the fan-favorite track Vroom Vroom
She later worked with Charli on more tracks for her later mixtapes and albums, producing amazing tracks like Roll With Me, Girls Night Out and my personal favorite song of all time, Out Of My Head from Pop 2
She produced for a lot of people you wouldn't expect too, like Madonna and Nicki Minaj on Bitch I'm Madonna and what surprised me the most, she had a lot of production credit on Vince Staple's Big Fish Theory.

You can really feel her presence on Yeah Right which also ft Kendrick
The most groundbreaking and boundary-pushing production is usually found on her own music tho, in 2018 she released her album 'Oil Of Every Pearl's Un-Insides' which is a mixture of beautiful songs about being and loving yourself and bangers with distored vocals and instrumentals
Highlights of the album include:
- Ponyboy, used in Beyonce's adidas x IVY PARK advertisement
- Whole New World/Pretend World
- Immaterial, a cover of Material Girl by Madonna

and my personal favorite Faceshopping, which is one of the best produced songs I have ever heard.
Overall there is so much more SOPHIE has accomplished in her life and again, the musical aspect should not be the only reason she should be remembered forever.

We lost one of the nicest and most professional people in the world. Rest In Peace.
If you wanna know more about her here is a great short documentary about her. It's in german at points but it has english subtitles
