Since I’m no longer working a 9 to 5 job I’ll give career and salary transparency for my fellow UX/UI designers & the like.

Highest salary I’ve been offered in London after 4 years of experience is £70,000 a year. Lowest is £30,000.
I have only been offered the highest salaries by start ups. Lowest by agencies.

Start ups allow you to leave your mark but are a lot of work. Agencies often are slower paced in my opinion.
Portfolio is everything. Being good, and I mean very good at your craft and demonstrating this in your portfolio is everything.
Side note: My current portfolio is PDF, my current website is 14 months out of date 😬
