Pulled the trigger, made the shift.
Why I shifted to iOS from Android?: A thread.
Shots inspired from: @technolobeYT @surajboddu
Reasons why I shifted to iOS from Android:
1. Camera
2. Clean experience
3. Battery life
4. Frequent Software updates
5. Longevity
Reasons why you shouldn't shift to iOS:
1. If WhatsApp chats are very important.
2. Lack of customizability.
3. If features like Quad HD display and high refresh rate display are some of your biggest priorities.
4. If you don't like simple stuff.
I had considered Android smartphones like the Pixel 4a and Mi 10i as I really wanted to give the mid-range smartphones a try but some reasons held me back from getting them.
Reasons for not getting the Pixel 4a:
1. Great camera/software (for the price) but lack of performance and a mediocre chipset.
2. Mixed opinions on the battery life.
3. Lack of after-sales in India.
Reasons for not getting the Mi 10i:
1. MIUI was the biggest deal-breaker and I'm not into rooting phones, I use them right out of the box. I always want the cleanest experience.
2. Privacy issues (not the biggest deal-breaker for me but still something to consider).
Why didn't I buy a OnePlus smartphone again?
1. OnePlus is no longer an enthusiasts' brand (not saying because other tech-youtubers are saying) based on my 4 years of experience.
2. Lack of software updates for older devices- I have been using the OnePlus 6t for 2.3 years.
My OnePlus 6t is still running on Android 10 with security patch level of March 2020. Instead of manufacturing new smartphones every 6 months, @oneplus pls start supporting older devices and seeding updates for them.
Reasons for not getting any of the Samsung flagships/mid-range in India:
1. Exynos (flagship).
2. Build Quality (Mid Range).
iPhone does have its share of cons but after all you need to consider a smartphone that suits your usage pattern. I don't game/watch movies on my phone, so the iPhone 11 ticks all the right boxes for me. Not going to be easy for me to shift to iOS, but that's what excites me.
Coming to value, the iPhone 11 is a year old smartphone which now costs slightly cheaper than most Android flagships of 2021 but you need to also consider the fact that the A13 bionic is way ahead of it's time and the cameras on this are much better than most flagships.
To conclude, I have spent around 72 hours with my iPhone 11 and it is hands down the best value iPhone currently available. The >720p display isn't as bad as most reviewers point out or maybe it's just me. According to me, spending 30k more for the iPhone 12 isn't worth at all.
If you aren't really a displaybuff who keeps pixel peeping the display and are looking for the best value iPhone, close your eyes and go ahead with 11. I wouldn't say it's the best value smartphone as most people aren't so flexible to shift OS and love the freedom of Android.
Forgot to mention, for some reason the Move to iOS app on Android doesn't work that well. So I have to shift most of my data manually. Just something you need to consider before switching to iOS.
