Emery was instructed to make Mesut’s life hell so he would leave. Barely spoke to him, or played him and when he was played it was usually in situations where he was set up to lose/or look bad. Playing in weakened teams or taken off early etc

Overall it looked like Emery was a very positive and determined guy. He worked very hard and was devoted. However the language barrier was a real issue and even caused him to get mocked by the younger players who had nicknames for him.
