Here’s another great thing about #TheHighRepublic stories existing: They necessitate, and pretty much guarantee, that if The Old Republic is ever fleshed out in canon, it’ll be immensely different from the way it was in #StarWars Legends. It kinda HAS to be.
They’ve now created an in-world historical context that will force that material to have worlds & groups that are much more raw, much more primitive (in some ways), & possibly waaaay more fantasy & “small” for lack of a better word.
Think about it: The High Republic era is around 200 years before TPM and they’re just now getting deep into Outer Rim expansion & Jedi presence and all that. That means that if we do indeed get new KOTOR stories or what have you, we’re NOT just going to be visiting Tatooine.
Coruscant will not be the Coruscant we know. The Jedi Order will be a far cry from the Jedi we see in these first few High Republic books & comics. So much of what we see technologically that’s coming to pass during these stories simply can’t be.
We’re NOT going to see Bacta tanks. We’re NOT going to see such an expansive galaxy, with lots of ships and technology probably being very stripped down. It can’t just be “Star Wars, but back then.” Not “Star Wars, but 1,000-3,000 years ago.” It HAS to be legitimately archaic.
And I think this is exciting in a lot of ways. Sure some things are going to be pretty much the same throughout the years. The Darksaber comes from that time and it’s a pretty modern weapon. But The High Republic still making such huge galactic leaps says a lot.
I mean they’re still establishing communications networks! They have to mine specific material to get space cell service out in these parts! And Yoda, Yarael, & Oppo are there for this. Dooku will be a Padawan by the time this era wraps up. It’s pretty wild & fun to think about!
Like, let’s say they do decide to tell a Revan story. Just an example. Or a Mandalorian Wars. We might see those conflicts & journeys limited to a few planets. Maybe some that can only be reached sublight? Stuff like that. Maybe we see more sabers like the cool Lord Corvax one.
