A sad reality : many Orthodox lack a prayer rule.

If you are having trouble developing a morning prayer rule :

- 12 Jesus Prayers w/ Prostrations
- O Heavenly King
- Trisagion
- Our Father
- Psalm 50
- Creed
- Psalms 3,37,62,87,102,142
(Add St. Ephraim during fasting seasons)
During the day, do the hourly prayers.

1st hour - 7:00 AM
3rd hour - 9:00 AM
6th hour - Noon
9th hour - 3:00 PM

In the evening :

- Small Compline, w/ an Akathist or Canon (start it after the Creed & then cycle back to Compline to “It is truly meet” & complete Small Compline)
Before bed :

- Introductory prayers
- Penitential Troparia
- Night prayers of St. Marcarius the Great, St. Antiochus, St. John Chrysostom, St. John of Damascus (Jordanville/St. Tikhon’s prayer books have these)
- Take a spiritual inventory of daily sins & make confession to God
A few more tips :
- Do the daily Scripture readings prescribed by the Church & seek out Patristic commentary on them. Pray before reading Scripture.
- Read the Lives of the Saints a little bit each day & pray the Feast’s Troparia/Kontakion before and after.
- Don’t rush. Focus.
Supplement these as your schedule & ability allows, but always push yourself a little bit more than you think you are able. Go slow, but steady. Do not burn yourself out & admit weakness in prayer if you are. Ask God for strength if you cannot focus. Do not be lazy about prayer.
- Make the sign of the cross before and after eating.
- Bless your food, say the prayers of the Church over it, and thank God for it before and after eating.
- Use arrow prayers with prostrations if you are struggle with despondency.
Two big final tips :

- do your morning prayers before you check your phone.
- do not check your phone after your prayers before bed unless it is an urgent matter.

If you only take away these two things out of this thread, it’s a lot. This habit alone will change your life.
If your Church is closed at this time or you cannot attend Church due to coof...on Sundays :

- Learn how to pray the Typica and learn how to keep vigil.
- Maintain your Communion preparation prayer rule even if you aren’t going to Church. If you don’t have one, get one.
