Mayor Lori Lightfoot is poised to address the news media with @ChiPubSchools CEO Janice K. Jackson to provide an update on reopening. @wttw
JUST IN: Lightfoot: "We wish we were here to announce a deal had been struck."

There is no deal, she announces.
. @CTULocal1 left city and school officials holding a "big bag of nothing," Lightfoot says.

There are 8 points of contention, Lightfoot says.
Lightfoot: We asked @ctulocal1 to put in writing the areas where we agree by 9 p.m.

"We got nothing," Lightfoot says.
"CTU leadership blew it up and created chaos," Lightfoot says of the three weeks that preschool and students in special education classes.

Those teachers "need to be there" to teach those students, Lightfoot says.
However, Lightfoot says the city has to prepare for CTU leadership to order teachers to stay home on Monday, when she says they expect K-8 students to show up.

"That would be a crushing blow" to our students and familie.
If that happens, Lightfoot vows to "take action.

It is not clear what steps she is implying the city would take.

A deal is doable, Lightfoot says. "We need to get it done."
If there is no deal, it will be totally the fault of the leadership of @CTULocal1, Lightfoot says.

Remote learning is not enough.

Enrollment is down; absenteeism is up; number of children failing is rising; Lightfoot says,
That is why in-person learning must restart, Lightfoot says.

Lightfoot: "Teachers, tell your leadership to meet us at the table."
Lightfoot says CPS is committed to "going the extra mile" to make sure schools are safe.

"Schools are not the source of the spread of this virus," Lightfoot says.
