The Rockies are paying $50 million to trade their best player https://twitter.com/ken_rosenthal/status/1355345919185743873
The Indians traded their best player Francisco Lindor because they didn’t want to pay him the long-term money and wanted to maximize his value

... what exactly is the plan for the Rockies here?
I was not a fan of the Red Sox trading Mookie, but the logic of getting David Price’s contract at least made sense from a certain perspective when building a roster

I just ... don’t understand this at all
we can talk about sign-stealing and trash-can banging all we want, but one of the defining legacies of the Jeff Luhnow Astros was that their success justified the strategy of teams completely and transparently tanking to rebuild their rosters
Was talking to a player recently about how they’re keeping track of which teams are choosing to spend money to win and which aren’t, specifically pointing towards Steve Cohen spending $$ making the Mets an attractive destination

Which FA is gonna want to commit to the Rockies?
CBA negotiations are going to get very, very ugly
even beyond the $$ involved, there’s a kid out there tonight who’s a Rockies fan who’s heartbroken that their favorite team just traded their favorite player

what incentive does this kid have for continuing to be a Rockies or baseball fan?
