Being a SMM during the last year has been rough. Not just because of the external turmoil, but benchmarks, data, and any confidence around my work was destroyed.

The peaks and dips in content consumption and lead flow no longer existed. No seasons. No expected behaviors. (1)
I couldn’t predict engagement nor did I have an explanation for why our best-performing content - didn’t. It was 12 months of throwing things + hoping they stuck. And trying to create new benchmarks out of chaos. New trends. Some kind of answer. (2)
It’s made me feel more disconnected from my love of marketing and passion for social because it feels like I’m treading water and I’m not a good swimmer.
