My thoughts for @aftncanada on the @CPLsoccer @USPORTSca draft through players I’ve watched at the U SPORTS level, a thread: https://twitter.com/cplsoccer/status/1355260465513902084
First up, Tommy Gardner. A midfielder I have seen play countless times for @ubcmsoc, a great fit for the Eddies! He’s scored some wonderful free kick goals, and can unlock defences with incredible passes. See a highlight reel free kick here
Next, second overall pick Christopher Malekos who formed a formidable defensive trio for Carleton in the 2018 U SPORTS Men’s National Championships, leading the Ravens to an upset over host UBC and eventually bronze. Even scoring in the QF (51 second mark)
5th overall from @ubcmsoc, yet to see Chris Lee play, but was looking forward to seeing him play for the T-Birds if there is a Canada West regular season! From the Whitecaps Academy
7th overall from Carleton is Stefan Karajovanic, another key player of that 2018 Ravens team. A creative playmaker, he formed a great partnership with former Cavalry player Gabriel Bitar. You can see him create two golden chances and a goal here:
12th overall from @ubcmsoc Victory Shumbusho, a natural goal scorer who bagged 10 goals in the 2019 Canada West season. Has played outside, as well as a lone striker. Pacy who gets in behind the defence with ease. Check out some highlights of Victory here:
14th overall from Carleton, Tony Mickhael a solid defender who formed a great duo with the aforementioned Malekos. Even met his family at the 2018 tournament, who said he would turn professional one day. And turns out two and a half years later, he is drafted to @ValourFootball!
16th overall but certainly not last is Jackson Farmer from @ubcmsoc. A defender who had a cup of tea with WFC2, and a stalwart player that kept UBC to the lowest goals given up across Canada West in the 2019 season, leading UBC to a third consecutive CW title. Also had 3 goals!
