hey! i'm actually a food engineer! and this actually does say a lot about wester-white-centric fandom!

The concept of "spoiled" or "rotten" food is very subjective and actually not applied IN ACTUAL FOOD SCIENCE.

spoiled milk to many is nasty and SHOULD NOT be drank cause it+ https://twitter.com/alicethebatata/status/1343598282136817666
+would hurt you, right?

Well, no. "Spoiled milk" is yoghurt or even cheese. In fact, the microbes that in "spoiled milk" would make it unhealthy and dangerous, are the basis of yogurt! less microbes, and it's considered Not Yogurt.

So, the analogy with steak:
how do you define a steak is "spoiled"? Well, a lot of things. But the THINGS that make you physically ill - like the art suggests - are mostly bacteria and MO.

The thing about bacteria and MO, is that they can be used to ferment and even preserve meat.
So if you go by bacteria count, yes your meat is spoiled.

But it's also not a steak. It might be chorizo, sucuk, pepperoni or naem...

You're applying YOUR idea of what meat is and what "unspoiled" means. Objectively speaking and in the food science we don't use "spoiled"
Do we have regulations on what is optimal for human consumption or not? yes, absolutely. but all rules don't apply to all humans. what we might deem "safe" to some can be dangerous for others (i.e. nuts, soy, gluten allergies etc).
in fact, more strict than regulations on what you can/cannot eat, there's a BIGGER EMPHASIS on PROPER LABELS.

objectively, we can sell spoiled milk, as long as is properly labelled. no matter if its dangerous for you or not.
case in point: junk food.

some instant soups contain sweeteners and oils that are BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH. These things CAN and might make you sick. but it's labelled. you're assuming your own risk when eating it.
so yeah, you're applying what YOU THINK is "healthy" or "unspoiled" based on YOUR CULTURE.

if you were to hand me an uncooked steak that's going bad - i'd cook it. or salt it. or preserve it in some way. because in MY culture, wasting food is VERY BADLY SEEN.
furthermore, even IF your analogy were taken at face value...What other people eat is none of your business lol.

I've seen poor kids eat food gone bad because it's all they can afford. hell, my family eats mouldy food cause its a waste to throw it away when it just tastes funky
So, really, what it feels like this argument is more of

"your milk is spoiled, you shouldn't eat it"

"no, it's not spoiled. it's yogurt. it's perfectly fine"

aka

"your ship is incest"

"no they're sworn brother, it's different."
"you shouldn't eat things that are covered in bacteria."

"well, it's chorizo, it's supposed to be covered in bacteria"

aka

"your ship has problematic aspects."

"well, it's a problematic ship, that's the point."
"you shouldn't eat chips, they're oily and will cause you heart failure"

"it's a fucking chip, susan. no one's gonna die for eating a fucking chip."
food is actually a fairly good analogy, cause it extremely linked to culture. what might be acceptable in some culture, in some other might not be.

a lot of white people like cheese, cause they have the genetic mutation that allows them to digest lactose. but a lot of POC don't
or if a white person eats a lot of spicy food, they might get an injury, but a Mexican person? i seriously doubt they will.

to Mexicans enemies-to-lovers might be more interesting because of the culture we grow up in, while to gringos it's unsettling.
SO, yeah. Culture plays a big part of what we deem "good" or "bad" and trying to generalize these two things - is highly white-centric and colonizing.

you don't get to dictate what we can and cannot eat, based on YOUR definition of "healthy"
New note: I was talking with a friend and we realized....Latinxs DO eat at places where we might get sick. Food regulations laws are way laxer into these countries.

We can go out an eat at a stand and later find out it made us sick.
But it’s not grounds to get it shut down. It might lose clients or not, but if it made YOU sick and other people are still fine, the stand will thrive

Our response to it is usually “I don’t eat there, I got sick once”. Not try and get it shut down - VERY different from USA laws.
I avoid eating at street food stall cause I know they might make me sick.

But my dad and many of his adult coworkers eat at food stalls CONSTANTLY because it’s cheap and fast, and even if you get sick it’s usually nothing more than a stomachache 🤷🏻‍♀️ so they figure it’s worth it
This goes to show how even the things that you deem “universal” are not.

Rules about food are part of ones culture. And assuming that every single person should adhere to the USA-centric rules is damaging. Cause people don’t work that way.
