So I woke up today with a text from a certain player's team, with that player's stats from 1 game last night and calling me a hater? So I'll handle it here so my point won't get twisted, misconstrued b/c I know they hang on my every word on this platform ... 1/8
1-I'm a reporter. Not a hater. Not your PR
2-I don't/won't pay you $$ for info, scoops or anyone else's. 99.9% of us dont
3-Or if you require my tap dancing for access, forget it. Can do without. I can get info w/o you. Think I've proven that. 2/8
4-If calls were returned instead of stalling, trying to plant counterintel to undermine my reporting, could've gotten in front of the story. There's a reason no one has refuted it. And neither has any actual reporter. They're not gonna cape for you and risk their credibility 3/8
5. Still waiting for 1 player, from previous team or 3 teams mentioned in my reporting, or coach or exec to say that your client didn't ask, "Can I play with y'all?" Also, never addressed the part about apathy towards social justice efforts that upset teammates on a Zoom call 4/8
6. Saying your previous team "quit" on you confirms everything I reported about locker room disharmony. It doesnt weaken the reporting. It confirms the Kumbaya to quiet the noise in the preseason was at best wishful thinking. At worst, an outright lie. I knew that, of course 5/8
7- Advice from a 20+yr media pro (free of charge): Confront the story, answer ?s, be honest, admit fault, dont blame others, apologize. Only going on media-friendly channels that wont call you when playing the victim card gases you up to say more things to later regret 6/8
8. Btw, what were those stats before last night's game? Let's say for the game v DET, or PHX or WAS? Nowhere on social media did I clown his struggles. THAT would make me a hater. (Side note: I do clown Andre Drummond trying to run the offense b/c it's really funny). 7/8
9. I've put this here so there's no confusion. No way for my words to be twisted, or for the truth to be retold and revised to suit your purposes. I wish him well. He's a nice guy. By all accounts, a good person. The advice he receives clearly leaves much to be desired. 8/8
