Fuck it. Thread on why the themes of Family are incredible in TROS.
Rey Palpatine. Not everyone liked it, myself included, but the conflicting ideology of Palpatine and the Skywalkers is at it's best here, and it's utilised brilliantly by making her a Palpatine.
The Emperors whole understanding of the force is based on the physical, the material, the crude matter.
This is why Palpatine is so obsessed with Rey. He only sees her as a physical vessel, a conduit for his dark side essence. He's constantly ranting about the darkside is in their blood. This shows Palpatines fundamental misunderstanding of the force.
The Skywalkers understand that the force is spiritual in nature which is why they accept Rey as part of their family. They understand that someones spirit is stronger than their blood.
In short, Palpatine sees his family as a means to an end, the same way he sees the force, and both towards his ultimate goal, avoiding death.
The Skywalkers see their family as part of the force, connected, knowing that blood isn't what defines you as a person.
