Imagine moving to a new job where folks are struggling to get things done. Before your arrival, you've seen that the company's seriously failing. The supervisor's about to be sacked & everyone knows this is all happening because the workers are just too timid..

Too lethargic. Lacking in ideas, afraid to try the difficult stuff. Right on arrival - the very first day - you try your best to inject as much energy as you can. You literally run around, take risks you wouldn't normally take, just cos the perilous situation demands it.

2/10
You sweat your balls off. You ask the supervisor to give you license to take even more risks. He's exasperated but he allows it. Along the way, it all pays off. Stocks start to rise. Suddenly investors believe in the company again. The supervisor's more comfortable now.

To top it all off, you put up incredible numbers yourself and win employee of the month a record number of times. Everyone loves you, or so it seems. Little did you know that behind the scenes, there are some plotting against you; unhappy with the way you do things...

You keep going, though, putting the work in and trying your best to make sure everything works out. Sadly, at the end of the year, despite all the work put in and the effort and determination, the company ends up failing to meet its yearly target.

You all came so close, which makes the failure even more bitter. Most people see progress, and recognize the part you played in it. Some, however, see only the negatives. That's all they're capable of seeing.

The next year arrives. Investors are enthusiastic and thankfully things continue the same way. More need for risks. More successful personal numbers. More successful company numbers too. But again, the company falls slightly short of achieving the quarterly target.

Now all of a sudden everyone's turning on you. You're just a lucky glory hunter, they say. Your numbers mean nothing. You cheat. You make too many mistakes - ignoring the fact that you spend most of your time covering up other's mistakes, while no one does it for you.

The idiots who have been quitely angered by your success start to get loud. These are people who wanted the company to fail long ago, but were sad that you came and turned things around. They paste your mistakes on message boards and make a mockery of your efforts.

9/10
It is sad cos you put your blood sweat and tears on the line. You say they don't get to you, but deep down the absurdity makes you sick.

But you also know who you are and what you're made of. You know that ultimately, no matter how loud they get, you'll always be you.
