Hi everyone, my name is Jackie Garcia ( @jaquelinmgarcia). I’m a third-year PhD student in the Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology program at WUSTL, and I’m a member of our SACNAS chapter.
I am from Aguascalientes, Mexico. When I was twelve, my family and I traded the highlands for The Great Plains and moved to Lincoln, NE where I spent most of my formative years and went to college.
As a first-generation college student, I attended @UNLincoln where I received a B.S. in Biochemistry and a B.A. in Spanish. GO BIG RED!
My advice for new graduate students is to not be afraid to advocate for yourself and as @tomaslagunasjr said mentor>science. Finding a supporting mentor is so important for being successful (and most importantly happy) in grad school and beyond!
Lastly, but most importantly, if you ever want to talk science memes/memes in general or have questions about grad school please feel free to reach out :)
You can follow @wustl_sacnas.
