Been quite a week here for NI Protocol. Swathes of clickbait headlines being regurgitated without reading articles. Anecdotal commentary with no evidence or fact being spun to heighten tensions. And most of it driven by supposed progressive moderates.
We are plumbing new depths.
We are plumbing new depths.
And when I say we I absolutely without question mean those in political Unionism. It is clear now that the agenda to deal with NI Protocol is to generate enough anger and fury at all costs to try to cause a rethink on its implementation.
This is neither clever nor helpful.

My politics have never been any secret on here, as too with my background. But I am deeply ashamed that I ever supported this place through political activism and support for pro-Unionists.
That shame is underlined by the reaction to EU actions this evening

There have been some I have defended and spoken up for on here, quite fiercely at times. Gutted at their behaviour today.
And I have been Unionisms harshest critic too, especially on those individuals and parties that see working class Unionists as nothing more as a vote.

But it is clear, what I have been told fir the longest time and refused to pay heed to. There is barely a paper width separating any of the pro-Union parties here. And it is clear that they want to see this place burn before trying to make the current situation work.
And that is not to say I am all of a sudden a United Ireland advocate. That is another discussion for another day, not sold on that quite yet. But for the first time I really get why people are agnostic on the constitutional question here.
I really get now why so many friends turned their back on Unionism over the years.
I have often said one of the people that inspired me to be politically active was David Ervine. And its true, the day we lost David Ervine was the day that we lost genuine working class Unionism.

I can’t believe I have wasted so many years of my life. Despite abuse and death threats and having my work and personal details shared all over social media because of my activism I still thought there was something worth fighting for in Unionism.
I was wrong.
I was wrong.
I can safely say there is no political home for me in NI. And thats ok, I can still share an opinion and be active in different ways that can maybe effort genuine positive change. And that is probably the crux of all problems here, the constant need to pigeon hole everyone.
You don’t need to be designated along any constitutional lines to be a good decent person doing the right thing for people. And it shouldn’t matter if you do designate or have a constitutional aspiration. It’s what you do as person free from bigotry and prejudice that counts.
So yeah, a bit of a rant but a genuine melancholy moment of realisation. And I guess to all those that warned me and told me to be wary of those that I did hold some regard for ... I’m truly sorry I did not listen.
I always say when people tell you who they are listen ...

... I am finally taking my own advice.
Good night.
