This is the everyday reality of Australia's "sustainable" kangaroo industry. The cruelty is abhorrent, and Australian governments do everything they can to make this industry as secretive yet PR-friendly as possible.

A common myth about kangaroos is that they exist in plague proportions. Governments and the kangaroo industry work together to uphold this myth, and celebrate the industry as being "sustainable" and an eco-friendly way to "harvest meat" (kill animals).

The industry and government clearly doesn't care about the cruelty inherent to the kangaroo trade, which is why we need to hit them where it hurts: we need to prove kangaroo populations are NOT thriving, and don't deserve to be massacred in the middle of the night.

That's why we need as many people as possible to take part in the Aussie Summer Kangaroo Count.

Even if you don't have any information to share with us about kangaroo killings, your observations about kangaroo populations alone are hugely helpful.

Every response we get strengthens our case which we will put to the NSW Government: we need a proper count of kangaroos, and we need a moratorium on all kangaroo killing - NOW.
