the last 30 or so years show this isn't true. it would be nice, but it isn't. https://twitter.com/ClareMalone/status/1355217460161601536
im not much of a fan of "stan"-ing anyone. but this is why i dislike the press briefing. even with biden. its about getting a gotcha, a viral moment. they want to get the press secretary off her game, she wants to neutralize an attack. none of it is about obtaining info.
we would be just fine with a wh press corps that asked the press secretary stuff for their stories instead of the televised press conference "show."
but the reporters arent there for the public. they didn't ask the press secretary four questions today about gamestop for the public. they asked because stories about it are trending and they want to feed the beast.
reporters mostly act like this because they grew up learning thats how you're "supposed" to do it cause either woodward/bernstein or the fights of the clinton years. god knows what theyre going to learn from the last four years.
they never talk about how woodward and bernstein had to do all that shoe leather reporting and examining campaign donations (before you could google it). that part never comes up.
most of the real, impactful stories - in any administration - come from the investigative reporters, and not the people at the white house. whens the last time the wh group broke big news besides some person got fired/resigned? and even then, its a managed rollout
