i watch s5 and wonder what the transfer of power was like when aaron sorkin left. did he tell the new writers what he had planned or did he just let them loose? bc there's a real tonal shift in s5, of course brought about by the ending of s4. the show becomes so much more (1/?) https://twitter.com/MALINAcomrade/status/1355273120349876226
of a drama starting at s5. s1-4 had their moments of course, but it focused more on the relationships between the senior staff. they were co-workers of course, but they're all best friends first. they played pranks on each other and made fun of each other and sometimes (2/?)
just goofed off together. all that is gone starting in s5. the ratio from drama to comedy completely flip-flopped. i think that the new writers were intimidated by the sheer power and influence of aaron sorkin that they tried their best to live up to that reputation (3/?)
which im the first to admit is INTIMIDATING. but again, that makes me wonder about the discussions between sorkin and the new writers between s4/5. what sort of advice did sorkin give? did he talk to them about their ideas for the direction of the show? again, did he tell (4/?)
them what he had planned for the characters for the rest of the show? i wonder if there was a lack of communication on sorkin's part and that's why the writers were struggling with their first season. i really don't like s5 and i feel bad about it sometimes bc i don't 100% (5/?)
blame the new writers. we obviously don't know what happened but whatever DID happen obviously wasn't an ideal situation. either sorkin just dropped the project completely or was unclear/vague about his advice to the new writers. this is just my opinion tho obvi (6/6).
anyways, #malinators.
