Dangers of having a psych dx. I’m in my early 30s. I was admitted to a&e with a small brain bleed on the right of my brain. L side weakness. All weekend I got worse. I was left with paralysis. I was told my symptoms don’t make sense.1.
The psych came to see me. I have a confirmed Subarachnoid Haemorrhage. He asks a little about me. He asks do I normally speak with a slur! Later in the week it was mentioned that it could be psychosomatic. While this has happening I’m left in bed paralysed and scared.
They rescanned my brain yesterday. I have had a further stroke. Psych still tries to allude to it being a stress response. The psychiatrist told me the scan didn’t look to different. I have had no care/ treatment for a week. As the bleed didn’t need an op.
I don’t believe any of this would have happened if I didn’t have a psych diagnosis. I’m under investigation for mitochondrial disease one key feature is strokes in young people. Instead of thinking it could be something I’m already under investigation for they blame my MH
This evening I have seen neuro and stroke. It’s taken a week to be seen by stroke as the first scan was a bleed. They have confirmed this is very real and not at all psychosomatic. The stroke team are now taking me on. I believe I had the stroke on Sunday night.
