I’ve worked since my first summer job at 14. Been gainfully employed for 42 years & have voted in every election since I became eligible. No republican has ever asked for my vote. None have ever consider me “working class” & none have ever tried understanding me as a voter.
The media - whether left right or center, whether print, television, or internet- have never asked them what they are doing to reach me. Or what they need to do to reach me.
Or why they aren’t doing better. It reminds me of the story my grandfather told abt his first time registering to vote in Texas once Black folk were allowed. He entered the building passing armed white men. Upon signing his “party affiliation” box was already checked: Democrat.
I have never agreed with all things Democrat whether leftist center or right. Like every Black person I know, I didn’t agree with every Obama act. Or Clinton. And I won’t with Biden /Harris because I’m a grown up who thinks. But what I will do is support the party that works for
My vote each and every election and do so in a honest deliberate way. And who will listen to me, my relatives, my friends & loved ones about *all the issues we face beyond the only issue Republicans think matter to us: criminal justice
We are more than that and Democrats like MVP understand that. As did Obama. We want jobs. Homes. Good schools. Fair wages. Access fo financial markets. Small business loans. Clean environments. Safe borders. Intelligent military usage. Appropriate regulations. And more. Just like
The *white voters the gop goes after. We won’t put up with racism and therein lies the harsh truth. The gop doesn’t go after me/us because of that single issue: we won’t put up with racism /they won’t stop their racism.
I own a home. Have a kid who will soon be in college. Pay a ton of taxes. Travel (pre covid), buy stuff, & pump money into the economy all day every day. Yet I’m completely invisible to gop society except as a “scary angry antifa BLM thug” tho I’ve never been arrested. And I’m
No different than.. millions others. The silent Black majority - and by silent I mean white media /gop are silent about us, preferring to center the Black populous that fit their needs to see us as lesser. You know us because you work with us, we serve you, we entertain you, &
We go about our lives just like you. But we remain invisible to the second largest political party in the country all because of our color. Remarkably limited in intelligence and political imagination. Never let the media fawn over gop strategists who can’t even reach me.
