Justin Fields looks like he's staring at his receiver and late on so many throws because Ohio State runs so many damn WR-read routes and he has to wait for them to make a decision, sometimes 15 yards down the field.
This play looks like an almost-INT (nice break by the Safety).

Fields throws this with perfect timing. He’s able to do it when asked. My theory why the INT almost happens is because the WR is short on his route and that’s why it seems like he’s running out of room on the route.
Shot PA, Fields alerts the Post, doesn’t get hung up at all on the TE getting gloved-up and immediately finds the checkdown.

Watch his eyes from the EZ. Everything is in rhythm. This isn’t sexy but these are tangible things that translate.
he can also do stuff like this https://twitter.com/Nate_Tice/status/1355258074403991552?s=20
Like here Fields hangs on the receiver. Usually you’d prefer if the QB has to move in the pocket on a PA and ends up feeling late on the throw like this you’d work to check it down.

So yes, in a perfect world he’d come off of this but it’s still a damn good throw here.
I just wanted to include this because Fields’ ability to be balanced and stay under control, even with stuff coming at him, are top notch. Good chunk of QBs would end up eating a sack here.
