Expectancy is an important issue in the Christian faith, but most of us have taught it wrong or been taught wrong concerning it.

When most people in church address being expectant, they’re referring to expecting God’s hand.
Consequently, when people don’t get what they were expecting (materialistically), they often walk away from the faith.

So how should the Church address the issue of expectancy?

We should address it by focusing in on God’s heart, not necessarily His hand.
You see, I can’t guarantee that God is going to get you that new car, that new job, or that new PS5.

What I can guarantee though is that God will be faithful, present, and sufficient in your life.
So when we tell people to be expectant, tell them that in light of God’s character and nature.

This way, when things don’t go as we envisioned, we won’t grow offended at God because of expectations that we placed on Him that were never His Will to begin with.
So should we be expectant?

Absolutely!

But the object of our expectancy should be His heart, not His hand.

Those who love God’s heart and expect Him to act in our lives in ways consistent with His Will and His Nature, always get His hand as a result.
But God’s Will is that we love Him and His heart more than we love His hand.

In this way, we get a better understanding of the truth that He blesses us with His hand, because He’s good, kind, and generous at heart!

Selah.
