I'm in the mood to start an analytical chat on whether Tesla is viable in SA or not. I'll dig up data and consolidate it as a thread. Keen?
Okay, let's go. Imma draw up a market report using available data on the available tools and data points that I have access to. This is, in no way, a matter of fact as I will use the data available to me to form an opinion.
I'd like to hear what @AudioTheBrand and @_NhlanhlaM think of this since you guys are in the e-mobility industry. A lot of my opinion will be "brand" related because I'm a marketer and we attach products to names.

This will broaden into the overall market at points.
My opinion will be based on data I find on the following:

1) The sentiment of Tesla in SA
2) Talkability in SA vs current key markets.
3) The segment and its players.
4) Understanding the market.
5) Electric vs Combustion
6) Eskom and facilitation.
Let's start off with the sentiment.

Tesla has been central to 18 600+ conversations in the year of 2019 but in 2020, it really took off in South Africa as it got over 67 500 mentions. This kicked off in Q4 2019 and didn't stop.
Now the more interesting part in this is the share in sentiment between the two years and the subjects in these conversations.

We can see that in 2019, the Cyber Truck impressed heavily and also received a lot of flack - mostly because of it's design. This is the beginning.
Come 2020, we saw a lot happen and Tesla became a popular name in South Africa. The negative sentiment took a dive, News, Forums, and Blogs took more interest and the conversation became central to the brand. That's best place to be because the BRAND carries the weight.
So, why would a brand that doesn't even sell in South Africa be of so much interest in the country?

1. Innovation
2. Brand ower
3. Investment Value
4. Performance

The Tesla vehicles are world beaters in every angle. They make our wildest dreams a reality. Also, Elon Musk
