Silencing voices that trigger, offend or upset us (by censoring them) doesn’t make our problem go away if we don’t face the root cause of our trigger. The problem just goes from overt to covert. It does give us time to take a breath and regroup though.
It’s healthy & natural to steer clear from energy that we no longer resonate with if we’ve done the work & healed the wounds that were worsened by being exposed to those triggers. It’s also healthy to steer clear from it if we are vulnerable, feeling unsafe or working on healing.
But if there are people in our life that we know are not going away anytime soon, facing our triggers from what they “bring” (via their words & actions), and creating healthy boundaries, is the work that needs to be done if we wish to be at peace, and in our power & sovereignty.
Doing the work to bridge differences in our relationships+communities transcends tolerance. It’s about digging in, healing, reframing, letting go, setting aside egos, healthy boundaries+detachment, seeing people where they’re at & seeing the humanity in us all. You get to choose.
