Yesterday, Deshaun Watson requested a trade from the Texans.

He’s a humble dude who has invested significant time and money into the city of Houston.

Yet he wants out. A thread...
1) Deshaun starred at Clemson, winning a National Title and becoming a two-time Heisman finalist, before the Texans took him 12th in the 2017 NFL draft.

JJ Watt and DeAndre Hopkins awaited. DW4 seemed like the last piece.

And it almost worked.
2) Before a season-ending injury, Deshaun set the league on fire as a rookie.

Year 2 rolls around and expectations are sky high in Houston.

DW4 exceeded them, throwing for 4,000+ yards and adding another 500+ on the ground. 31 TDs.

The Texans go 11-5. The future is bright.
3) 2019

Deshaun established himself as a top QB in the NFL, going toe-to-toe with MVPs like Brees and Ryan.

So what went wrong?

The playoffs. Houston jumped to a 24-point lead over KC before losing 51-31.

The loss reflected deeper organizational disfunction.
4) That offseason, Houston trades DeAndre Hopkins without letting it’s star QB know beforehand.

Tough blow, but Deshaun still had weapons.

In fact, he felt good enough to sign a new deal with the Texans.

Then the 2020 season happened.
5) The Texans went an abysmal 4-12 despite Deshaun leading the NFL in passing yards.

In JJ Watt’s words, “We wasted one of your years.”

Still, he might have stuck around. He even opened a sandwich shop in Houston.

Until Texans ownership failed one last time.
6) Let’s be clear: Bill O’Brien played a role, but the responsibility lies with ownership.

In January, Houston announced Nick Caserio as its new GM.

The problem?

Like it did in the team’s search for a head coach, ownership ignored Deshaun’s input.

Now, DW4 wants out.
7) This is a textbook case in eroding the trust that takes so long to build between player and management.

Personally, I’m hoping one of the NFL’s best players and men gets his wish.
