So saw this coming. Unfortunately, it is easier to cancel. This is often what we see when working towards sovereignty and authenticity. This is a power tactic of white supremacy masquerading as respect.

1. Refusal to admit that they dropped the ball in selection. Shifting the https://twitter.com/ManishaKrishnan/status/1355215758960300033
blame into the community who they probably didn't adequately consult. They saw a name that was being applauded and jumped into action. Same kind of idea with Boyden. No one asks the important questions until they break into mainstream. And breaking into mainstream requires
an amount of privilege and access only afforded very few Indigenous Artists and filmakers. With that privilege and access comes knowing and applying the knowledge required to gain more access; ie, language register (code switching). Writing grants and proposals. Finding out that
they didn't do their own research; means more work. Work they do not want to do. On the set of Trickster; there are filmmakers in the cast. It is not like they don't have access to them but this move is a colonial sidestep to avoid accountability.

2. It is a warning to the
community to not bite the hand that feeds them. This is very much a #HoldTheRations scenario. Rather than make it right; withhold so that they can say they tried. We see this tactic in every area of our lives tied to Indigenous funding. It is their way or no way.
