2/n Why important? It shows how the govt - in this case @NMEnvDep - is failing to protect the public from the #oilandgas industry.
3/n @NMEnvDep knew about problems at an #oilandgas site for 18mos - but didn't prevent it from exploding earlier this month.
4/n This isn't unique to NM. In Texas @TCEQ takes many months before inspecting problematic #oilandgas & #fracking sites. And with @EnviroIntegrity we've sued @EPA for failing to hold states accountable for failure to enforce the law.
6/n When something as important as public safety is failing, and your first attempt to fix it doesn't work, good leaders try something different. And that's what @GovMLG and @NMEnvDep need to do here.
7/n Earthworks documented potential violations at Caza Petroleum operating sites near the explosion location multiple times and reported complaints to @NMEnvDep. Yet no enforcement action is known to have been taken to date.
8/end @GovMLG must do everything in her power to put #peopleoverpollution in NM.

- close the loophole in @NMEnvDep's proposed air pollution rule
- support bold and needed enviro & health legislation this session
- & provide more resources to agencies so they can #halttheharm.
You can follow @Earthworks.
