@NHLBruins vs @DallasStars, November 1, 2008.

That was the day of one of the wildest hockey games ever played. Dirty hits. Villains. Fights. Line brawls. Ejections. And some incredible moments.

THREAD 👇
It starts with a low, late hip check by Steve Ott on Stephane Yelle. A few Bruins take exception to the hit
Shawn Thornton wants a piece of Ott, but Ott turtles and hides behind the refs.

(this will be a common theme for the night)
Next play, Ott crashes the net and Big Z pigeon tosses him out of the club.
This is a strange play. It looks like the Bruins thought this would be icing.

No whistle, Ott finishes his check. By now, he knows he's playing the role of villain for the night. And he loves it
Whistle or no whistle, @ShaneHnidy doesn't like the hit and tries to dance. Ott wants NONE of it
On the way to the bench, Ott gets stopped by @27MilanLucic. This is the 3rd fight Ott has turned down (and who can blame him?)
3rd period now. @Ferknuckle lays a HUGE body hit on Ott at center ice. Clean hit.
@imseanavery doesn't like the hit and tangos with @Ferknuckle. Avery gets the takedown but Ference pops back up.

"He wants to tear him limb-from-limb, and who wouldn't wanna see that?!" - @RealJackEdwards
Another look at that hit from @Ferknuckle. What a beauty
This GIF belongs in a museum.
Play behind the net, @mturco35 elbows @PKessel81 behind the net.

The whistle gives the boys another chance to engage in some extracurricular activities. Blood is boiling at this point. These guys do NOT like each other
Another look at Turco elbowing Phil the Thrill.

Notice Ott giving a knob job after the whistle
@ThorntonFDN finally gets a dance partner in Krys Barch. No defense in this fight. Fists are flying. These guys want blood
Thornton joins Ference and Lucic in the box, but not before having some choice words for Avery on the way
Mark Stuart scores a goal, but Ott gets in his grill on the way to the bench. He can't help himself. Refs are doing what they can do keep this from getting out of hand
Okay... something is about to happen now and all Hell is going to break loose.

You knew it was coming.
Sean Avery runs @27MilanLucic from behind and the inevitable finally happens.

Absolute bedlam.

@MSavvy91 pounces on Avery immediately and it's just chaos on the ice
Everyone pairs up, even Phil Kessel. Savard is letting Avery know EXACTLY what he thinks about him.

Notice Tim Thomas at the blue line. He said after the game that Turco skated into the neutral zone, and that he was ready to greet him if he tried to join the fray
Lucic, who was just hit from behind, is FURIOUS. He's picking his targets now and letting them know.
Another look at the hit. @MSavvy91 wastes no time in letting Avery have it. The Bruins finally get their chance to make the Stars pay
Watch the left side of the screen. @ShaneHnidy is going to town on 22-year old Matt Niskanen. This is the moment he endeared himself to Bruins fans
At this point, the refs FINALLY throw out Ott and Avery. They should have done it way earlier, but the entertainment level of this game was at a 10.

Ott's in the tunnel looking to see what's going down
Mike Modano was still on the Stars at this point and he talked about how angry and embarrassed he was by Avery and Ott's performance that night.

Modano has spoken publicly on many occasions about his dislike for Avery as a teammate
