1) Initial thoughts on int'l travel measures. Better late than never. Will discourage travel. But why not keep it simple, align with #covidzero best practices: only essential travel into Cda, 14-day mandatory hotel quarantine for all arrivals by air & land. #cdnpoli
2) Why just 3-day hotel quarantine while awaiting negative PCR results? Still can have positives after 3 days, and we know self-quarantine at home is too leaky esp with highly infectious variants & lack of enforcement. Keep it simple and airtight! #cdnpoli
3) From NZ, individuals tested positive even after 14-day hotel quarantine! Shows importance of precautionary principle here. Why test our luck with new deadly variants and reduced vaccine efficacy? #cdnpoli
4) BIG unaddressed issue is interprovincial travel, regional movement for non-essential reasons. Variants are already here! This remains unaddressed in #BCpoli and we will continue to important cases of variants and spread them across BC and Canada, without changes. #cdnpoli
5) We should be looking to Australia--a federation like #cdnpoli. Aust states used interstate restrictions. Req'd prior approval for travel across state borders to stop spreading positive cases & creating new hotspots. V important within context of variants. #bcpoli
6) We should be looking to deploy rapid antigen tests to essential workers who are involved in US/Canada trade. My guess: US under new administration would be willing partner to implement. #cdnpoli
7) Even in 11th hour & evidence of reduced vaccine efficacy re SA variant, in #cdnpoli still looking for shortcuts in. We STILL seem unprepared to do what has proven effective in #COVIDzero jurisdictions. Why push our luck? More spread gives rise to new variants. #cdnpoli #bcpoli
