I used to buy gifts quite often for my wife when we were dating but when we got married I didn't realise I wasn't buying gifts anymore. It got so bad that I FORGOT TO BUY HER AN ANNIVERSARY GIFT, and she actually went out of her way to buy me so many gifts on the same day #THREAD
I didn't realise it, but since we got married I assumed my daily 'serving, giving &sacrifice' to keep the home running were more than enough to make my wife feel special & I slowly neglected getting gifts like I used to. It almost became an afterthought & I felt she understood
This was probably because my dominant love language is "Act of Service" so I assumed she would perceive love in the same way, but the way she always goes out of her way to get me gifts at every little opportunity should have given me a clue that she perceives love through gifts
Whenever I thought of giving her gifts, my mind always went to very big ticket items that will require long term planning and I will end up not giving the gift at all; While she could go out and come back with something not necessarily grand, but very thoughtful most of the time.
Thankfully, she lovingly spoke to me about it weeks after our anniversary & I explained the reasons for my oversight &committed to doing better.
I redemmed myself by getting a good anniversary gift&now I'm consciously improving my gift-giving skills. It's still a work in progress

The experience taught me 3 things
1 As you serve your home, pay close attention to your spouse & focus on making them feel special the way they perceive it
2 While it's great to get big gifts, thoughtfulness&consistency will count more
