So, I had a mandatory lecture today & received this article to read beforehand.
When I saw "8 minutes and 46 seconds" I realized the topic.
I called the ODI dean & my advisor. They supported me in requesting that all Black students be excused.
We are tired.

There was no warning about the article or topic.
3 Black students were mandated to attend without an alternative.
Not only does this article NOT discuss anti-Black racism, white supremacy or even George Floyd's name, it uses the details of his murder as a woke moment.

It's this lack of forethought that makes lectures, schools, hospitals like these unsafe for us.
Ultimately, we were excused bc I asked.
The burden of often having to choose between a poor grade & protecting our well-being is weighty & undue.
