Brief thread

1. In the mid-1970s to mid-1980s, from age 24 to 33, Tim Keller pastored a blue-collar congregation in rural Virginia.

His annual salary was $8,000—half of what the average person in his congregation made. He literally had no money to buy any books.
2. For birthday and Christmas gifts, his only request was money to buy books. And each year he used all that he received to buy @BannerofTruth books, which he then would read throughout the year.
3. Tim shared this story on our @LBEpodcast (which I co-host with @RevKevDeYoung and @collinhansen). We'll plan to air it this Sunday. We talk about cancer, books, and YRR (how it started and what happened).
4. I thought about this today when I received the latest box of books from @crossway, where I work (though remotely, now). I get overwhelmed with all of the good books I could and should be reading.
5. It struck me that this is a relatively unique "problem." When J. I. Packer discovered an old uncut set of the works of John Owen, there were virtually no Puritan works in print at that time.
6. I received from @LexhamPress commentaries by @akostenberger (on the Pastorals) and @DrTomSchreiner (on Hebrews). If you're under 30, you might take for granted the number of high-caliber commentaries we have these days written by scholars who believe ever word proves true.
7. "Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required" (Luke 12:48).
8. Apologies for the word "brief" when introducing this thread!
