In exploring the @KlausFluggePr I wanted to revisit those books that were shortlisted from the prize’s inaugural beginning (2016). First up is the striking collaboration between @KatiaCotton (who wrote & edited the book) & Stephen Walton with Counting Lions (1/5)
The counting book consists of 10 spreads. As an oversized book, it provides space for Walton’s majestic charcoal drawings. Each image took around 100 hours. This time-lapse video shows techniques & tools used by Stephen (2/5)
Totally self-taught, Stephen found that charcoal was ‘more suited’ as a medium to ‘creating an effect like fur’. Whilst studying Geography at Manchester Uni. that connection between the natural world & art grew & both elements were enriched through his love of photography (3/5)
This photo* shows Stephen (centre) with Katie Cotton & Andrew Watson (who worked on the ‘clean & simple design’ of the book). With a foreword from actress & wildlife campaigner Virginia McKenna (Yes, ‘that’ Born Free film and Foundation), this book champions conservation (4/5)
This piece would have been possible without the following sources:
Stephen Walton’s own lovely website*: http://farm3.clik.com/swalton/section608239.html
@fhordon1 excellent interview for @KlausFluggePr

Finally, I attach a beautiful reading of the book by Sarah @RTRLibrary
