Since we are now at 161 signatures so far and the letter has been sent to leadership. @CityYearChicago I am SO disappointed in the fact that you are pressuring Corps members who have bare minimum health insurance, and aren’t allowed to take more than 8 (1/?)
days in their corps year, and who work below minimum wage with that living stipend to expose themselves and the LOW INCOME communities corps are supposed to serve. As an alum that struggled with the lack of support in your program, I can’t say I’m surprised (2/?)
However, I am extremely disappointed. You purport yourself to be a social justice organization, yet your actions are endangering your corps, your staff, and the students/communities they serve. Is it about social justice, or about the sponsorship money? (3/?)
You need to take steps to protect your corps members, ensure they get vaccines and make sure there is no punishment on their term or their scholarship if they have to miss due to not wanting to catch Covid. (4/?)
I’m disturbed at the callousness. Your leadership and staff also need to look your privilege and esp your ableism

Please help share this letter, they need to get exposed. As an alumni of the program, I can’t sit by and let them endanger communities and americorps members. (5/5)
Also, please let me know if you’re a CYCHI alumni, I will share the link with you privately so your signature can be added.
Oh let me not even ADD how you use food stamps as a way to market to corps members for the $1200 or whatever it is now monthly stipend, and that’s pretax! You are using public benefits to subsidize your pathetically low stipend and you make corps members use their own off days -
- to be able to see the organization provided therapists. Not to mention the train ride downtown is included in that. And now you’re pulling this. This is not surprising coming from this org at all.
Btw, if I seemed depressed and miserable the year I was in Chicago- this is why! I guess I’m comfortable with talking about it now.
