Marcelino García Toral has revolutionised Athletic Club since taking over. 🦁

The Asturian had turned a team mired in mid-table mediocrity into a force to be reckoned with. 💪

How’s he done it, and who is he? Let’s find out.👇

Marcelino would earn his fame as a manager rather than a player.

He left Sporting in 1989 to join Racing Santander, before spells with Levante and Elche.

He retired at just 28 due to injury.

Marcelino got Zaragoza promoted but was sacked the following season, spending a period back at Racing before joining Sevilla in 2011. 💃🏽

His time in Andalusia wasn’t a success, however, and he was relieved of his duties there in February 2012. 😬

Good times were around the corner, however, when Marcelino joined Villarreal in January 2013. 💛

He earned promotion in his first season before securing three top-six finishes in the Primera as well as a run to the semi-final of the Europa League. 🇪🇺

Marcelino was sacked by Villarreal in August 2016 over differences with the boardroom, joining Valencia the next May. 🦇

He turned Los Che into a formidable force, winning the Copa del Rey in his second season at Mestalla. He was sacked, however, that September.

Now he’s back in the game, having joined Athletic in January.

Fiery, combustible but devastatingly effective, Marcelino is lean and mean with an eye on revenge.

With an Athletic team buying into his methods, the rest of LaLiga should be afraid. Very afraid. 😈
