There is hardly any day where I don’t read a joke on a Doc’s bad handwriting even though many scientific articles have clearly established that there is no statistical difference when compared to other professionals .. But we get singled out
There is hardly any day where I don’t read a joke on a Doc’s bad handwriting even though many scientific articles have clearly established that there is no statistical difference when compared to other professionals .. But we get singled out
Of course ,a prescription written in a bad writing has enormous implications which may lead to undesired complications & doctors should take the responsibility for that . However , scientific reasons of why a doc’s handwriting can become progressively worse is to be understood
Apart from well established reasons of attending to large number of patients in a short time , documenting all their case sheets etc can be daunting . It is a dictum that what is not documented is not done . So everyone is expected to write a lot .
On a given day itself, there is a fatigue factor of small muscles of hand which can worsen the writing .. It is similar to how your last few pages of exam answer paper looks like compared to the first page . A very busy practitioner’s prescription will definitely be bad overtime
Solutions are to use capital letters, e- prescription, digital voice translation etc..At the end of the day it comes down to patient safety in our field. The jokes will continue as long as we write
